What is OBA?
The OBA (outcome-based assessment) is a two-stage assessment process: a multiple-choice question (MCQ) and an objective, structured clinical exam. IQNMs (Internationally Qualified Nurses and Midwives) must pass the first stage before moving on to the next stage.
Stage 1
Stage one is a cognitive assessment, which is a computer-based MCQ exam. IQNMs must pass the exam to move on to Part 2 of the OBA. The applicant can attend the computer-based MCQ at different exam centres in different countries.
Stage 2
Stage two is a behavioural assessment in the form of an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). The OSCE has been developed to assess whether an IQNM demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and competence of a graduate-level Australian nurse or midwife. The applicant must be in Australia to attend the OSCE at approved centres in Australia.
